Just not true

Men like to think the fairer sex is worse at driving but they're wrong

Look up the phrase 'women drivers' on your Yahoo! search bar and you'll be bombarded with images of cars parked at impossible angles, overturned on top other vehicles or pictures of well endowed women driving with just the right amount of cleavage being shown off. It goes without saying that the male attitude towards a woman's driving skill is equal to how we feel about them when it comes to shopping and asking for directions. Unfortunately, statistically, women are not only better drivers than men but we're much safer behind the wheel too.

Studies have shown that skill behind the wheel is not linked to gender. We have similar levels of hand-to-eye coordination as men and while the world of motorsports is a male dominated arena, it's more to do with opportunity and physical limitations related to body structure rather than a lack of capable women racing drivers.

Back to statistics and if numbers don't lie, then a man is far more likely to get into an accident than a woman. The reasons for it are pretty simple. Men are naturally more aggressive than we are and that aggression is often played out on the choked roads we drive everyday. Spend too long in a traffic jam and you're likely to see male drivers trying to force their way to the head of the cue or venting their frustration by mashing their car horns.

We're also more likely to drive with safety in mind. From choosing our cars to the careful and considered driving style we usually adopt, perhaps there is a link between how we drive and our own maternal instincts. This is not to say men do not care for their families and children, but you're very likely to see a man driving quickly even with his family in the car than you are a woman.

Of course, there are always exceptions to every rule. While it's true women are better at multi-tasking then men are, it's also true there are many of us who quite simply lack the confidence to be good drivers. Speed may be a big reason why men get into accidents but driving too way below the speed limit in fast moving traffic or not being aware of other cars poses its own kind of dangers.

Those cases are in the minority though, so the next time a man chooses to highlight his so called driving skills and superiority behind the wheel, you may want to bring up some choice facts. Just don't get into an argument about reverse parking skills. I know too many of us who are really bad at it.
