Candidate for Umno Youth chief’s post to report misconduct on Monday – Bernama

Candidates vying for the post of Umno Youth chief have urged the party's disciplinary board to take prompt action against any candidate who goes against the code of ethics of the 2013 Umno election.

They said any action taken should be transparent and without compromise if it was proven a candidate had contravened the code by, for example, campaigning individually.

Pusat Bandar Taman Chempaka, Pandan Umno branch Youth assistant secretary Syed Rosli Syed Harman Jamallulail said he had evidence and witnesses to prove that it had been done.

He said he would report the matter to the disciplinary board on Monday.

"I hope the disciplinary board will be firm because we should follow the rules when contesting,” he said at a press conference today, adding that if the party does not follow the constitution, the matter can be taken up with the Registrar of Societies.

Merbok Umno division former Youth chief Abd Karim Ali said it was unfair in a contest for a candidate to use a ministry's platform to campaign everywhere while other candidates did not have such an advantage.

"The disciplinary board should take action. No need to wait for members to report. What is the point of a code of ethics if it is not used?" he said.

Langkawi's Bendang Baru Umno branch Youth chief Akhramsyah Muammar Ubaidah Sanusi said if it was true that a candidate was campaigning on a ministry's platform or non-governmental organisation, it should be investigated.

He said a candidate could have deviated from his duty and taken the opportunity for personal benefit.

"I also agree that a person should be brought before the disciplinary board, if found to have used a ministry's machinery under him to campaign," he added. – Bernama, October 5, 2013.
