Classic cars go for big money at Silverstone Classic sale
Silverstone Auctions had some very rare and really special classic cars that were up for auction and they brought in a significant amount of money, some selling for well above their estimated value.
Silverstone Auctions has recorded an amazing sale during its Silverstone Classic sale, raking in more than £2 million. 64 per cent of the road cars that were up for sale were successfully auctioned off along with eight competition cars.
A while back we covered a number of classic cars that were up for sale during this particular auction and now it has been revealed how much each car sold for. Some of the more important cars included a 1966 Aston Martin DB6 MkI, once owned by entertainer Des O’Connor, which sold for £147,200. A 1996 Ferrari 456, originally owned by Bernie Ecclestone brought in £34,500 while the ‘Noddy Car’ we reported on earlier sold for £29,325.
“We’re absolutely delighted with the fantastic results we’ve achieved for our vendors,” said Nick Whale, managing director, Silverstone Auctions. “While the celebrity cars grabbed much of the pre-sale attention, fantastic prices were achieved on cars right across the sale, confirming the quality of the lots on offer.”
But the car that stole the show was a 1965 Aston Martin DB5 saloon, believe it or not the car sold for £373,750, which was a lot more than its estimated value. The 1958 Jaguar XK150 ‘S’ Roadster with incredibly low mileage that we reported on earlier, sold for £201,250. Its said to be one of the highest prices ever paid for a car of this type.
Despite the amazing bidding wars that took place for the road going cars, there were a number of competition cars that also sold for good money, one of them being a single seater. To be more precise, its Kimi Raikkonen’s first UK single seater, a Formula Renault and it sold for £25,300.
