Coming soon: VW XL1 – 111km/L

Yes, you read that right! Volkswagen has confirmed that its XL1 Super Efficient Vehicle, the most fuel-efficient production car in the world will go into production at the company's Osnabrueck factory in Germany.

The most aerodynamic car ever, the XL1 is a lightweight, TDI plug-in hybrid. Weighing just 795kg, the 1-litre two-seater is a with an all-electric range of 50km with zero emissions. When combined the diesel-electric engine will have a range of over 500km, emitting just 21g/km of CO². With 0 to 100km/h in just 12.7 seconds, the seven speed dual clutch gearbox (DSG) XL1 has been electronically limited to 160km/h.

Smaller than the Polo, the XL1 is s 3,888 mm long, 1,665 mm wide and just 1,153 mm tall with a 120-litre boot. It will come with ABS and electronic stabilisation programme because Volkswagen believe that sustainability without maximum safety would not be step forward.

No indication of price nor of time frame in which this will be available for sale. Malaysia wants to be the regional hub for hybrid Energy Efficient Vehicles (EEVs) but let's see if this will even have a sniff at our shores.
