Pembenihan awan bagi menghasilkan hujan berikutan cuaca panas sekarang tidak sesuai dilakukan berikutan keadaan angin yang sangat stabil dan bergerak dalam satu hala.

Pengarah Bahagian Sains Atmosfera dan Pembenihan Awan, Jabatan Meteorologi Malayasia (JMM) Azhar Ishak berkata untuk membolehkan proses pembenihan awan dilakukan dengan jayanya, ia memerlukan angin yang tidak stabil selain bergerak dalam beberapa hala pada ketinggian sekurang-kurangnya 5,000km.

Beliau berkata apabila angin tidak stabil dan bergerak dalam pelbagai hala, keberangkalian untuk wap air naik ke udara amat tinggi sekali gus membolehkan pembentukan awan yang sesuai untuk dibenihkan.

"Sekarang ini kita (Malaysia) ada angin timur laut yang sekata...bila angin sekata pembenihan awam tidak akan berjaya kerana wap air dari bawah tidak dapat naik ke atas untuk membentuk awan bagi disuntik dengan pekatan garam bagi menghasilkan hujan.

"Sekarang ini memang ada hujan tapi hanya di satu dua kawasan pada awal petang dan bukan di kawasan tadahan air," katanya kepada Bernama di sini hari ini mengulas mengenai cuaca panas sekarang sehingga menyebabkan bekalan takungan air di Empangan Klang Gates dan Empangan Sungai Selangor berkurangan.

Bagaimanapun Azhar berkata sebarang keputusan untuk melakukan pembenihan awan atau sebaliknya terletak di tangan Majlis Keselamatan Negara (MKN) sambil menambah mesyuarat mengenainya akan diadakan dalam masa terdekat.

"Kami di Meteorologi sedia menawarkan bantuan dan kepakaran jika pihak MKN mahu lakukan bila masa yang sesuai," katanya.

Semalam, Timbalan Menteri Tenaga, Teknologi Hijau dan Air Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid semasa melakukan lawatan ke kedua-dua empangan itu berkata penduduk Lembah Klang termasuk Putrajaya bakal berhadapan masalah bekalan air bersih yang kritikal jika cuaca panas yang melanda negara ketika ini berlarutan tiga minggu lagi.

Mahdzir berkata paras air di Empangan Sungai Selangor dan Klang Gate yang ketika ini mempunyai simpanan air kurang daripada 60% akan terus merosot, sekali gus memberi kesan besar kepada kira-kira dua juta pengguna yang bergantung kepada sumber air dari kawasan tadahan itu.

Sementara itu, Exco Belia dan Sukan, Infrastruktur dan Kemudahan Awam Selangor Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi dalam kenyataan di sini hari ini berkata kerajaan negeri sedang berbincang dengan JMM untuk melakukan proses pembenihan awan pada skala besar mengikut kesesuaian masa.

Dr Ahmad Yunus berkata untuk menangani masalah keperluan air di Dengkil, Sepang dan Kuala Langat, mesyuarat Exco Kerajaan Negeri setuju menambah tangki air di kawasan terbabit melalui Unit Perancang Ekonomi Negeri (UPEN) dan pihak berkuasa tempatan.

"Selain itu Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) telah menghantar lori air ke kawasan berkenaan secara berterusan selama 24 jam," katanya.

Ahmad berkata air di tujuh empangan iaitu Empangan Tasik Subang, Empangan Sungai Tinggi, Empangan Sungai Selangor, Empangan Sungai Semenyih, Empangan Langat, Empangan Klang Gate dan Empangan Batu masih melebihi paras kawalan yang ditetapkan selain turut mempunyai sebuah kolam takungan untuk kegunaan kawasan di sekitar Lapangan Terbang Antarabangsa KL iaitu Kolam Takungan Sungai Labu. - Bernama, 14 Februari, 2014.
