Police have reclassified as murder the death of Regina Soosalu, an Estonian model with links to a member of a royal family, after suspicious wounds were discovered on her body, The Star reported.

Soosalu was initially thought to have drowned when her body was discovered on the Pulau Rawa beach on July 1.

The Star reported Johor CID chief Datuk Hasnan Hassan as saying that six suspects had been detained to facilitate investigations.

"All six suspects were on Pulau Rawa on July 1," Hasnan was quoted by The Star as saying, declining to elaborate further.

Soosalu's boyfriend, Tengku Alang Reza Ibrahim, had remained silent about her death until Tuesday.

On his Facebook account, Tengku Alang described the incident as the “worst tragedy of his life”.

"Regina my love has passed away on July 1, in the holy month of Ramadan.

"She is my love, my best friend and will continue to be my inspiration for the rest of my life," Tengku Alang wrote in the Facebook post.

"Her heart was filled with greatness, love, compassion for all beings and life itself.

“Words cannot express the emptiness and heartache I feel. Farewell for now, never goodbye. Till we meet again I love you my baby, you’ll always be in my heart X.”

The Star reported Hasnan as saying that Tengku Alang had yet to be called to have his statement recorded.

"We have informed Interpol about the incident and we have left it to them to contact her family," Hasnan said.

Hasnan said details had been supplied to the Estonian embassy in Beijing and the investigators have been communicating with Soosalu's family.

Soosalu on her Facebook page said that she had been in a relationship with a person called Alang Reza since July 3, 2012.

The Star also contacted the Estonian embassy via email and quoted spokesman Mariann Sudakov.

“We have been in contact with the family of the deceased, and we are advising them on the necessary arrangements,” said Sudakov. – July 10, 2014.
