Drop in number of flood evacuees in Kelantan, Terengganu – Bernama

The number of flood evacuees in Kelantan and Terengganu dropped tonight while Pahang showed a marked increase in the number of evacuees.

In Pahang, the number of evacuees continued to increase to 37,389 people when compared with 35,501 in the afternoon while the flood victims were placed in 244 flood relief centres.

A spokesman from the Pahang police contingent headquarters' flood operations room said Temerloh district had the largest number of victims, totalling 15,366 people housed at 62 evacuation centres.

Seven other districts involved are Jerantut (6,025 flood victims at 59 centres), Pekan (5,108 at 34 centres), Maran (3,690 at 28 centres), Lipis (2,468 at 31 centres), Bera (2,426 at 14 centres), Kuantan (2,277 at 14 centres) and Rompin (29 at two centres).

In Kelantan, the number of evacuees declined to 142,564 people tonight compared with 147,072 in the afternoon.

Kelantan Social Welfare department director Nik Omar Nik Abdul Rahman said 43,558 victims are at 63 centres in Kota Baru, Pasir Mas (23,568 victims at 35 centres), Pasir Putih (192 victims at two centres), Tumpat (26,584 victims at 32 centres), Tanah Merah (3,546 victims at 24 centres).

A total of 8,289 victims in Machang are in 34 relief centres, Kuala Krai (23,500 victims at 103 centres) and Gua Musang (13,327 victims at 24 centres).

In Terengganu, the number of evacuees dropped from 32,210 in the evening to 31,805 tonight.

According to the Terengganu National Security Council (MKN) portal, Kemaman recorded 21,874 victims, Dungun 9,507, Kuala Terengganu 270 and Hulu Terengganu 154.

There are 70 centres operating, namely 29 centres in Dungun, 33 in Kemaman, four each in Hulu Terengganu and Kuala Terengganu.

It is also said to be raining in parts of Terengganu as of tonight.

In Perak, the number of flood victims in Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Perak Tengah and Kerian dropped to 7,408 people from 1,948 families while Johor recorded 171 people from 49 families. – Bernama, December 29, 2014.
