Elizabeth Wong tarik diri tanding naib presiden PKR

Selangor exco Elizabeth Wong (pic) has withdrawn from the crowded PKR vice-president race at the party's elections next month, as she wants to focus on defending her post in the central leadership council.

"Yes, I have written a letter to withdraw my bid for the vice-presidency because I feel there are too many candidates who are capable of doing a good job," she said outside the Selangor assembly today.

PKR will hold its party elections next month with the final results expected to be announced on May 11.

Johari said as Wong had pulled out of the 16-cornered fight, 15 candidates will now slug it out for the four vice-president posts.

For its central committee which has 20 posts, only two out of 78 candidates have pulled out.

For the Wanita wing, only one of the 30 candidates has withdrawn from the race.

A total of 500,001 members are eligible to vote in this election, with Selangor having the most members at 144,020, followed by Sabah at 86,955.

PKR will have direct elections for all its posts starting from the branch to the central committee levels. – April 11, 2014.
