Do you know how much your member of parliament or MP is paid each month, or even the Prime Minister's salary? Don't feel bad if you don't. We didn't either.

But when we decided to find out, we discovered that, as public servants, they are bound to the Members of Parliament Remuneration Act 1980, which details their salaries and related allowances.

So, we thought we'd share this little nugget of information with you, since it's you and us that pay their salaries. Check out the table below and tell us what you think.

Who gets what? Monthly allowance Monthly Salary Total   
Members of the Senate or Upper House RM4,112.79

Members of the House of Representatives (Lower House or Dewan Rakyat) RM6,508.59

If an MP is designated as a leader of the Opposition, he or she is entitled an additional monthly allowance RM3,846.59

This means Anwar Ibrahim is given

If members of the administration are either a Senate member or an MP, they get additional allowances
