JAKARTA, Aug 29 (Bernama) -- The Indonesian government has fixed Hari
Raya Aidilfitri, 1 Syawal 1432 Hijrah for Wednesday, Aug 31.
The date was announced by Indonesia''s Religious Minister Suryadharma Ali at
a meeting of Islamic groups'' representatives from all over the country at the
Religious Ministry here tonight.
Although the government announced Hari Raya on Wednesday, the Muhammadiyah
members, one of the biggest Islamic groups in Indonesia, will still celebrate
Aidilfitri tomorrow instead.
The Muhammadiah representative sought permission from Suryadharma Ali for
the group to celebrate Aidilfitri tomorrow and requested protection for its
members when they performed their prayers a day earlier from the rest of the
Muslims in the country.
