Iraqi called war hero sentenced in Colorado rape
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — An Iraqi man who immigrated to the United States after helping U.S. soldiers in his homeland has been sentenced to 28 years to life in a rape case.
KRDO reports (https://tinyurl.com/ky5tksr ) that Jasim Mohammed Hasin Ramadon was sentenced Friday. He had been convicted earlier this year of sexual assault but acquitted of assault in a 2012 attack on an unconscious woman that left her hospitalized with serious injuries.
Ramadon was among five Iraqi men charged in the case. All came to the U.S. after helping American soldiers.
"A Soldier's Promise," a 2009 combat memoir by Army 1st Sgt. Daniel Hendrex, depicted Ramadon as a teenage hero who risked his life to provide information to U.S. soldiers.
