Jaguar Land Rover UK record sales in 2012

Jaguar Land Rover UK has reported record sales for 2012 – its best ever sales year in the UK.


Over 54,480 Land Rover brand vehicles were sold in the UK, up almost 25% on the previous year and taking a whopping 27% share of its market segment.

Much of Land Rover's success was from the Range Rover Evoque which is in its first full year of sales. Over 18,119 units were sold, making it Land Rover's biggest seller in the UK. The Land Rover Discovery sales were up 7.4%.

The brand's flagship product, the Range Rover sold almost 4,000 units. Deliveries for the all-new Range Rover to customers begin later this month but many dealers have already reported full order books for the next year.

Malaysians wanting to place a booking will have to wait a long time for the delivery of the all-new Range Rover. As it is, the current delivery time of the globally successful Range Rover Evoque to Malaysian buyers is 13 months with many resorting to the considerably higher priced grey market imports in order to take faster delivery of their Evoques..

Meanwhile for Jaguar, UK registrations increased 2.4% to over 14,000 units despite competitive market conditions. The revised Jaguar XF saloon was the sales leader for Jaguar with a 10% increase in sales in 2012 compared to 2011. The XF's 22% market share puts it ahead of the Mercedes-Benz E-class and Audi A6 in terms of sales volume.

The XF Sportbrake secured 11% market share impressively despite being only recently introduced. Further growth is predicted for 2013 for the model.

The Jaguar XJ luxury saloon outsold the BMW 7-series and Audi A8 to comfortably claim the number two spot in its segment with 21% market share. The Jaguar XK meanwhile notched by 26.5% market share.

All round, the outlook for Jaguar in the UK In 2013 looks positive with the first full year of XF Sportbrake sales, the launch of the XFR S saloon and the highly anticipated F-TYPE two-seater sports car. The F-TYPE has only been shown in public twice but UK dealers are reporting a very encouraging start for in terms of interest and deposits taken.
