KUALA LUMPUR, 15 Ogos (Bernama) -- Bermula sekadar minat terhadap seni

fotografi, seorang pensyarah Universiti Multimedia tidak menyangka mampu

mengharumkan nama negara di persada antarabangsa apabila koleksi gambarnya

terpilih untuk dimuat dalam ''Lens'', laman blog fotografi The New York Times.

Che'' Ahmad Azhar Che'' Fadzil, 49, dari Kedah, merupakan pensyarah fotografi

di Fakulti Kreatif Multimedia di universiti itu sejak 16 tahun lepas.

"Minat yang mendalam terhadap bidang fotografi ini datang semasa belajar di

UiTM (Universiti Teknologi Mara) dalam jurusan Ijazah Sarjana Muda Seni Reka

Grafik dari tahun 1981 hingga 1985. Waktu belajar seni reka grafik ini memang

ada subjek asas-asas fotografi," katanya ketika dihubungi Bernama hari ini.

Menceritakan bagaimana mendapat peluang menempa nama di laman blog The New

York Times itu, Che'' Ahmad Azhar berkata ia bermula apabila beliau bertemu

Maggie Steber, seorang jurugambar antarabangsa, di Obscura Photo Festival di

Georgetown, Pulau Pinang pada penghujung Jun lepas.

"Semasa berlangsungnya pameran itu, Maggie Steber ini melihat gambar-gambar

saya dan tertarik, lantas memaklumkan kepada saya bahawa beliau mahu menemu duga

saya untuk dihantar ke The New York Times," katanya.

JURUGAMBAR-PENSYARAH 2 (AKHIR) KUALA LUMPUR

Che'' Ahmad Azhar juga berkata beliau menghantar kira-kira 40 keping gambar

untuk dipilih dan daripada jumlah itu, sebanyak 16 keping terpilih untuk

dimuat dalam persembahan slaid laman blog berkenaan manakala tiga lagi

mengiringi artikel ''A Street-Level View of Kuala Lumpur'' tulisan Steber.

"Saya memang tidak menyangka semua ini sebab saya ambil gambar bukan untuk

masuk dalam majalah ke, apa ke, tak.

"Saya ambil gambar semata-mata kerana minat dan lakukan atas suka-suka

sahaja," katanya yang sudah memiliki tiga cahaya mata.

Semalam, Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak memuji Che'' Ahmad

Azhar kerana gambarnya dimuat dalam laman blog The New York Times itu dengan

perkataan ''Syabas'' melalui akaun Twitter beliau.

Selain menjadi ruang menampilkan gambar yang diabadikan jurugambar New York

Times, laman blog itu memuatkan karya terbaik daripada akhbar, majalah, agensi

berita dan agensi gambar lain serta yang digunakan buku, galeri, muzium serta

laman sesawang.
