NEW YORK, 5 Jan (Bernama) -- Konsulat Malaysia di sini sedang membuat

persiapan untuk memudahkan rakyat Malaysia yang tinggal di Amerika mengundi pada

pilihan raya umum ke-13.

Oleh kerana bidang kuasa Konsulat Malaysia di New York meliputi 17 negeri,

maka semua pemegang pasport Malaysia di negara ini boleh datang ke New York

untuk mengundi, kata Konsul Jeneral Malaysia Syed Mohammed Bakri kepada Bernama

di sini.

Beliau bagaimanapun menasihati warga Malaysia yang ingin mengundi pada

pilihan raya itu supaya terlebih dahulu membaca dan memahami garis panduan yang

ditetapkan bagi pengundi di seberang laut yang terdapat dalam laman web

Suruhanjaya Pilihan Raya (SPR) untuk mengelak sebarang kekeliruan.

“Rakyat Malaysia yang tinggal di seberang laut terlebih dahulu perlu

berdaftar dengan SPR dan mendapat pengesahan sebagai pengundi yang layak berbuat

demikian, sebelum datang ke konsulat ini untuk mengundi," katanya.

Kini, terdapat kira-kira 15,500 rakyat Malaysia di 17 negeri berkenaan

mendaftarkan diri dengan konsulat itu.

PENGUNDI-LUAR NEGARA 2 (AKHIR) NEW YORK

Bagaimanapun, Syed Bakri menganggarkan jumlah rakyat Malaysia yang tinggal

di New York mencecah 100,000 orang.

Sementara itu, Syed Bakri berkata azam beliau pada 2013 ialah untuk

meningkatkan hubungan dengan golongan peniaga Malaysia di pantai barat negara

ini dan mendapatkan lebih banyak maklumat tentang jenis bantuan yang boleh

dihulurkan pihaknya kepada mereka.

“Kami ingin menawarkan khidmat kami kepada golongan peniaga Malaysia di

Amerika untuk meningkatkan hubungan ekonomi antara kedua-dua negara.

"Ada peniaga Malaysia menjalankan operasi pembuatan termasuk dalam bidang

pengeluaran perabot di pantai barat dan saya ingin membawa bersama wakil MIDA

dan MATRADE untuk bertemu mereka," katanya.
