New Lexus IS: First official pictures
Ahead of its Detroit Motor Show world debut on 15th January, the official pictures have been released by Lexus.
The all-new Lexus IS compact sport saloon was inspired by the Lexus LF-CC concept car and Lexus have stayed faithful to the highly acclaimed concept car in the styling of the IS, with powerful and elegant lines. The beauty is not just external though. The interior is refined, spacious and driver-focused.
Exterior
The new IS carries the spindle front grille family look which was first debuted on their production models on the Lexus GS350 (hyperlink here)
The headlamp cluster is new with Lexus's signature L-shaped daytime running lights which are separate from the main headlights.
Interior
The cabin materials and finishes are clean and elegant and have been ergonomically designed to maximise all-round comfort while providing a driver-focused layout. The new-design driver's seat is more comfortable and provides better lateral support. The seat hip point and the angle of the new steering wheel are both lower, and the steering wheel's reach adjustment has been increased, giving a more sporting driving position.
Rear seat passengers get better leg room as a result of the new IS's increased width, longer wheelbase and thinner front seats. Rear seats have 60:40 split-fold function.
In a Lexus first, the airconditioning temperature is controlled with the touch of a finger through electrostatic switches. Time is read off a high-quality analogue clock with surface-emitting illumination.
Exclusive F Sport design features
The instantly recognisable grille and front bumper of the new IS F Sport models serve a practical function. The “waistline” of the spindle-shaped grille is set higher than on the standard models to create a larger lower grill to draw in a greater volume of cooling air needed for sportier driving.
The IS F Sport also boasts an exclusive seat design that provides more support. The seats are made using and integrated foaming method that ensures there are no gaps between the upholstery and the filling, giving both excellent comfort and great lateral holding.
The IS F Sports carries another feature from the LFA supercar - a driver's meter with a moving centre ring.
