We’ll hunt you down, top cop tells runaway sex blogger

Polis tidak sekat kebebasan bersuara, perlu ikut undang-undang

Police will go all out to look for sex blogger Alvin Tan‎, even though he is seeking political asylum in the United States, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.

Utusan Malaysia reported ‎Khalid saying that Tan was rude and could not be forgiven because he had shamed some Malaysian leaders with his offensive pictures and status posts on his Facebook account.

"He thinks he can run. But every country has its own regulations and we will not give up looking for him," Khalid was quoted as saying by the Malay daily.

Police have opened investigations into Tan's case, according to Utusan, and Khalid has also given a stern warning to those who misuse social media to run down the country's leaders.

"There will not be any forgiveness to those who incite and insult," he was quoted as saying.

According to his Facebook account, Tan, or Tan Jye Yee, is currently in Los Angeles, US.

He fled Malaysia after the Sessions Court temporarily returned his passport to allow him to travel to Singapore to supposedly film a documentary.

He was earlier on trial with his former partner Vivian Lee for insulting Muslims and the holy month of Ramadan by uploading a picture of the duo eating bah kut teh and wishing Muslims "Selamat Hari Raya" on their Facebook account in July last year.

Bah kut teh is a pork dish and non-halal for Muslims.

In a recent interview with The Malaysian Insider, Tan said leaving Malaysia was the "only rational action" to escape the government's "tyranny" as well as the "ignorance" of ordinary Malaysians.

The 26-year-old former scholarship student defended the pork dish post by calling it a political satire.

He also said the entire episode had highlighted the danger of using Islam "as a basis to govern other people's life" by legislating personal morals, without making a distinction between what is immoral and what is illegal. – September 29, 2014.
