A Malaysian squad headed by Ong Kim Swee is set to grace an Under-21 tournament next month in Gia Lai, Vietnam.
Malaysia have been drawn in Group A alongside long-time rivals Indonesia and West Asian giants Iraq, in the tournament named VFF Newspaper Cup. In Group B, hosts Vietnam will take on Singapore and Syria.
Kim Swee has named 18 players from his S-League based Harimau Muda A and 12 others from Harimau Muda B, state teams, clubs, as well as a Bukit Jalil Sports School student in the preliminary squad for this invitational tournament. The 41-year-old coach could however lose some of the players to Datuk K.Rajagopal’s senior squad for their friendly match against Hong Kong on October 16.
The tournament is scheduled to start on October 11 and will finish 11 days later on October 22. The players will report for training next Monday at Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya.
