MAS denies rumours that MH370 passenger relatives flown to India by accident

Malaysia Airlines has come out to debunk rumours that some families of the passengers on missing flight MH370 were flown to India instead of Malaysia.

In a release at about 12:50am today, the national carrier said the report 'is not true'.

"Malaysia Airlines flies directly from Beijing to Kuala Lumpur without a transit. There is also no Malaysia Airlines flights direct from Hong Kong to Mumbai or any part of India," it said, in a short statement, adding that the welfare of both the crew and passenger’s families remains their focus.

The rumours have been spreading on social media, as well as internet portals like Singapore's citizen journalist site Stomp and local media site Malaysia Edition.

These rumours follow other hoaxes, such as a photoshopped image of a security exercise in Macau last year, made to look as if the missing Malaysia Airlines flight was in the hands of hijackers. Full story here.

Malaysia is under the global spotlight after the flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing vanished into thin air early Saturday morning. Local leaders and officials have come under intense criticism for their handling of the matter, being slammed for an alleged lack of transparency and contradicting information being issued by different officials.
