Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim hari ini menegaskan Mejar Zaidi Ahmad tidak sepatutnya didakwa hanya kerana mempertahankan kebenaran, selepas anggota tentera itu diheret ke Mahkamah Tentera.

Ketua Pembangkang itu berkata, laporan polis yang dibuat oleh Mejar Zaidi terhadap dakwat kekal membuktikan integriti dan disiplin yang dimilikinya.

"Mejar Zaidi dilatih soal integriti dan disiplin, sebab itulah dia buat laporan terhadap dakwat kekal yang tidak kekal," kata Anwar semasa merasmikan mesyuarat agung kali ke-2 Pertubuhan Prihatin Bekas Anggota Keselamatan Malaysia (Pahlawan) hari ini.

Anwar membidas tindakan yang diambil ke atas bekas Pegawai Pemerintah Skuadron 12 Pengkalan Udara Diraja Malaysia (TUDM) adalah tidak wajar kerana ia bukan satu kesalahan yang besar dilakukannya.

"Kalau salah pecah amanah itu lain, tapi ini sebab Mejar Zaidi menjadi seorang yang bertanggungjawab.

"Beliau mendapati dakwat pada jarinya tidak kekal, oleh itu beliau membuat laporan polis," kata Anwar lagi.

Menyifatkan tindakan ke atas Zaidi tersebut sebagai malapetaka, Anwar berkata pihak yang sepatutnya dibawa ke muka pengadilan adalah Suruhanjaya Pilihan Raya (SPR) kerana kegagalan memastikan dakwat yang digunakan tersebut tidak tanggal.

"Yang patut dihukum sebenarnya adalah SPR kerana menipu, tetapi yang dihukum sekarang Mejar Zaidi.

"Ini matapetaka kerana mereka yang baik dihukum pula," tegas beliau lagi.

Pada 7 Februari lalu, Zaidi didakwa atas tujuh tuduhan di Mahkamah Tentera, Kompleks Mahkamah TUDM Pangkalan Udara Kuala Lumpur.

Lima daripada pertuduhan berkenaan di bawah Seksyen 50(2) Akta Angkatan Tentera 1972 sementara dua lagi membabitkan Seksyen 51 akta sama.

Seksyen 50(2) adalah membabitkan kesalahan tidak patuh kepada pegawai atasan yang boleh dipenjara tidak lebih dua tahun, manakala Seksyen 51 pula tidak patuh kepada perintah tetap yang boleh dihukum penjara tidak lebih dua tahun atau hukuman ringan lain.

Tindakan tersebut mengundang kritikan banyak pihak, malah bekas Pengerusi Bersama Bersih 2.0, Datuk Ambiga Sreenavasan turut menyatakan sokongan kepada Zaidi dan menyifatkan keberanian anggota tentera tersebut sebagai patriotik. – 14 Februari, 2014.
