MELAKA, 28 Sept (Bernama) -- Kerajaan negeri Melaka menyasarkan untuk

menanam ''Jagung 1Malaysia Melaka'' (1MMC) melibatkan kawasan seluas

sekurang-kurangnya 404.8 hektar bagi menjadikannya tanaman industri di negeri

itu

menjelang pertengahan tahun depan.

Exco Pertanian dan Pembangunan Usahawan negeri, Datuk Hasan Abdul Rahman

berkata setakat ini tanaman 1MMC di bawah Program Jagung One Malaysia (JOM)

anjuran kerajaan negeri dengan kerjasama badan bukan kerajaan (NGO) CSR

1Malaysia itu hanya melibatkan keluasan tanah berjumlah 121.4 hektar di beberapa

kawasan di Sungai Rambai, Bukit Katil dan Semabok.

Beliau berkata usaha itu penting kerana tanaman itu mempunyai permintaan

yang tinggi di pasaran tempatan dan luar negara serta mampu membuka peluang

pekerjaan dan menjana ekonomi penduduk setempat.

"Setakat ini tanaman 1MMC di negeri ini masih dalam kategori tanaman kontan

disebabkan masalah tanah yang menyukarkan ia diperluaskan dalam skala yang besar

dalam tempoh masa yang singkat," katanya kepada pemberita selepas merasmikan

majlis tinjauan santai Projek 1MMC di Taman Pertam Jaya Semabok sini, hari ini.

Turut hadir Yang Dipertua Negeri Melaka Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob dan

Penasihat Kehormat CSR 1Malaysia Datuk Andrew E.

Hasan berkata situasi itu menyebabkan 1MMC hanya mampu dijual di pasaran

sekitar negeri itu namun ia masih tidak mencukupi disebabkan permintaan yang

tinggi berbanding pengeluaran.

Sehubungan itu, beliau berkata kerajaan negeri akan mengadakan perbincangan

dengan pihak yang mempunyai tanah terbiar termasuk Tenaga Nasional Berhad

(TNB), Syarikat Air Melaka Berhad (SAMB) dan Jabatan Pengairan dan Saliran (JPS)

negeri bagi memperluaskan tanaman berkenaan.

Mengulas lanjut program berkenaan, katanya 1MMC mampu ditanam empat kali

setahun dengan jumlah 36,000 pokok bagi setiap 0.4 hektar tanah, hanya

mengambil masa 60 hari untuk dipetik serta tidak mempunyai risiko yang tinggi

berbanding tanaman Mangga Delight yang pernah diusahakan sebelum ini di negeri

itu.

Katanya tanaman 1MMC juga kini mendapat permintaan untuk diperluaskan di

Johor bagi penghasilan makanan haiwan selain turut mendapat perhatian dari

Amerika Syarikat dan China.

"Amerika Syarikat memang memerlukan jagung yang banyak untuk diproses

menjadi gula dan wakil dari China akan ke Melaka bulan depan untuk melihat

penanaman jagung ini bagi tujuan eksport," katanya.

Dalam perkembangan lain, Hasan berkata sebuah makmal jagung berkeluasan 4.04

hektar telah dibangunkan di Taman Tasik Permai Sungai Rambai bagi tujuan

mengenal pasti jenis benih jagung yang sesuai ditanam dan memberi pulangan serta

hasil yang baik.

"Makmal ini dibangunkan di tapak perintis program ini dan kita akan jalin

kerjasama dengan Institut Penyelidikan dan Kemajuan Pertanian Malaysia (Mardi)

bagi tujuan penyelidikan," katanya.

Beliau berkata sebuah kilang memproses jus jagung juga akan dibina Sungai

Rambai pada tahun hadapan dalam usaha menjadikan tanaman tersebut sebagai ikon

negeri itu.
