PUTRAJAYA, 11 Jun (Bernama) -- Kementerian Kesihatan bekerjasama rapat

dengan Pertubuhan Kesihatan Sedunia (WHO) dalam memantau perkembangan wabak

''Novel coronavirus'' atau ''Middle East Respiratory Syndrom Coronavirus (MERS-CoV)

di seluruh dunia.

Selain itu, kementerian turut meningkatkan pemantauan dalam negara sebagai

langkah berjaga-jaga terhadap penularan virus itu, kata Timbalan Ketua Pengarah

Kesihatan (Kesihatan Awam) Datuk Dr Lokman Hakim Sulaiman.

Kementerian Kesihatan dalam kenyataan Jumaat lepas berkata negara Timur

Tengah yang melaporkan kes MERS-CoV ialah Arab Saudi, Emiriah Arab Bersatu,

Jordan, Qatar dan Tunisia, manakala negara-negara Eropah ialah Jerman, Perancis

dan United Kingdom.

Dr Lokman Hakim berkata orang ramai yang berkunjung ke negara-negara Timur

Tengah dan Eropah terlibat diminta supaya sentiasa mengambil pelbagai langkah

untuk menjaga kesihatan dengan lebih rapi.

Beliau berkata demikian kepada pemberita ketika ditemui selepas Majlis

Anugerah Pingat Perkhidmatan Cemerlang warga Kementerian Kesihatan oleh Menteri

Kesihatan Datuk Seri Dr S.Subramaniam di Pusat Konvensyen Antarabangsa Putrajaya

(PICC) di sini, hari ini.

MERS-JANGKITAN 2 PUTRAJAYA

Dr Lokman Hakim berkata kementerian kini turut bekerjasama rapat dengan

agensi pelancongan dan syarikat yang merancang untuk menguruskan pakej-pakej

haji musim ini, untuk memberikan maklumat terperinci mengenai penularan wabak

itu kepada jemaah.

Beliau berkata sehingga kini WHO tidak mengeluarkan sekatan perjalanan

pelancong antarabangsa ke mana-mana negara terlibat, dan vaksin untuk jangkitan

penyakit itu juga belum ditemui.

Penasihat Khas bagi aspek Keselamatan Kesihatan dan Alam Sekitar WHO Andrew

Harper dalam satu taklimat media di Geneva hari ini menggesa petugas kesihatan

di seluruh dunia supaya berjaga-jaga terhadap simptom MERS yang berpotensi

menjadi pandemik, menjangkiti seluruh dunia.

Sementara itu Dr Lokman Hakim menolak kenyataan beberapa pihak di laman

web kononnya kerajaan Arab Saudi ''membisu'' dalam soal penularan MERS di negara

itu menjelang ketibaan bulan Ramadan, Julai ini.

Kerajaan Arab Saudi sentiasa berkongsi maklumat mengenai penyakit itu, malah

dalam satu perhimpunan WHO, mereka membuat pembentangan mengenai persekitaran

jangkitan dalam negara dan bekerjasama rapat dengan pakar WHO untuk mengkajinya,

katanya.

MERS-JANGKITAN 3 (AKHIR) PUTRAJAYA

Beliau berkata tiada jangkitan MERS dikesan dalam negara ketika ini, namun

kementerian kesihatan meningkatkan lagi keupayaan makmalnya dalam usaha mengesan

sebarang tanda-tanda jangkitan di kalangan pesakit dengan lebih pantas, dan

saringan lebih rapi.

"Memang tidak ada vaksin untuk MERS, sebab itu nasihat kami ialah jemaah

yang pergi ke Arab Saudi nanti jaga kebersihan, dapatkan panduan anggota pasukan

kesihatan, kalau hadapi masalah dapatkan rawatan segera.

"Begitu juga mereka yang baru pulang dari umrah, umpamanya, memang simptom

batuk biasa berlaku sekembali dari umrah, tapi kalau batuk dan demam berlarutan

dan ditambah dengan masalah pernafasan, segera ke klinik. Maklumkan mengenai

sejarah perjalanan supaya kita dapat buat pemeriksaan lebih teliti," katanya.

MERS-CoV merupakan anggota keluarga kumpulan coronavirus yang menjangkiti

manusia serta haiwan, dan Sindrom Pernafasan Akut (SARS) merupakan antara strain

coronavirus berkenaan.

MERS-CoV mula dikesan di Arab Saudi tahun lepas, dan sehingga kini 31

daripada 55 orang yang disahkan menghidapnya di seluruh dunia, meninggal

dunia, dengan 40 kes jangkitan dilaporkan di Arab Saudi.
