Najib arrives in New York for UN general assembly – Bernama

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has arrived in New York for a working visit to the United Nations general assembly.

The special aircraft carrying Najib and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor landed at the Westchester County Airport, at 7.30pm (7.30am in Malaysia).

They were greeted on arrival by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman, Malaysian Ambassador to United States Datuk Awang Adek Hussin and Malaysia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Datuk Hussein Haniff.

Najib is scheduled to address the general assembly at the United Nations headquarters on September 26.

The prime minister has been invited by the New York Academy of Sciences to be one of the key speakers at the international launch of Global STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Alliance, here, on September 22.

During the event, Rosmah will be receiving the STEM Hero Award for her contribution to early childhood education and development in Malaysia.

Najib is scheduled to deliver a statement to outline Malaysia’s efforts and views in combating the global climate change at the United Nations Climate Summit, at the UN headquarters on September 23.

On the same day, the prime minister has been invited to deliver a keynote address at Georgetown University in Washington D.C while another key event during the visit is the Annual Biotechnology International Advisory Panel (Bio-IAP) Meeting, the following day where he is expected to deliver his opening remark at the event.

He is then scheduled to chair the 4th Global Science and Innovation Advisory Council (GSIAC) meeting at the New York Academy of Sciences and the same evening, the prime minister will host a dinner for the Malaysian Diaspora.

On September 25, Najib is scheduled to meet business leaders at the Investors Roundtable Session as well as host a business luncheon for senior US business executives at the event.

Later that day, Najib will be delivering a keynote address at the Malaysia-US Business Forum to promote Malaysia as an attractive destination for investment.

The premier has also been invited to attend the Open-ended Meetings of Commonwealth Heads of Government on CHOGM Reform in the afternoon.

Najib and Rosmah will be participating in IM4U volunteer activities as well as host a dinner in conjunction with the Perdana Scholar Awards ceremony, both on September 26.

They are scheduled to leave for home on September 28. – Bernama, September 21, 2014.
