Najib lists four values expected of civil servants – Bernama

Kerajaan pertingkat usaha bantu semua mangsa banjir, kata Najib

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said civil servants should possess four values of loyalty, dedication, competency and integrity.

Since civil servants form the backbone of national development, they should possess the four values to implement immediate transformation to meet the government's aspirations.

"The four values will be the pillar and guide civil servants in carrying out the trust and responsibilities given to them, he said when opening the exhibition "MY Story: Transforming the Nation" at Galeri Petronas in Kuala Lumpur today.

Najib stressed that loyalty is born from principles and not blind loyalty, and that civil servants must support the government mandated to rule.

"You don't undermine the government. You don't write (negatively) in your emails, blogs or tweets. You must remain steadfast and loyal. If something is not right, tell us. There is a way of doing it."

He is impressed with the dedication shown by civil servants of the past who carried out their responsibilities regardless of the time or holidays.

"They work day or night, even on Sundays, without complaints or frown on their faces. That is pure dedication.

"Do something out of the ordinary, be willing to go the extra mile and not stick to the 9am-5pm or 8am to 4pm routine."

On competency, Najib said civil servants should become good communicators and ready to face the media and to explain government policies and aspirations.

"Civil servants of the past could sit and hide behind their desks but things are different now. The 2014 era is more challenging."

The prime minister also reminded civil servants to maintain integrity when discharging their responsibilities and duties to provide the best service.

The exhibition "My Story: Transforming the Nation", organised by the Alumni Association of Administrative and Diplomatic Officers presents a historical perspective on the role of the civil service in the transformation of Malaysia.

Held at Galeri Petronas, KLCC, the exhibition runs until September 16 from 10am to 8pm, Tuesday to Sunday. – Bernama, August 30, 2014.
