hari ini diiktiraf sebagai ''Lifetime Campaigner for Peace and Freedom of the

Mahathir Award for Global Peace''. (Aktivis Sepanjang Hayat bagi Keamanan dan

Kebebasan Anugerah Mahathir untuk Keamanan Global)

Ikon global bagi keamanan dan kebebasan berusia 95 tahun itu yang memainkan

peranan penting dalam menamatkan dasar aparteid, sekali gus membebaskan

rakyatnya, merupakan penerima sulung anugerah tersebut.

Anugerah itu disampaikan oleh bekas Perdana Menteri Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad

kepada Presiden Afrika Selatan Jacob Zuma bagi pihak Mandela yang kini dirawat

di hospital di Pretoria susulan jangkitan paru-paru berulang.

Zuma berada di negara ini bagi lawatan kerja tiga hari. Turut hadir pada

majlis yang berlangsung di Pusat Konvensyen Antarabangsa Putrajaya di sini ialah

Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak dan isteri Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.

Turut hadir isteri Dr Mahathir, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali dan Pengerusi

Lembaga Pemegang Amanah Yayasan Keamanan Global Mahathir, Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing.

MANDELA-ANUGERAH 2 PUTRAJAYA

Terdahulu dalam ucapannya, Perdana Menteri berkata Mandela merupakan

pemimpin yang menyatukan sebuah negara tatkala yang lain memecahbelahkannya.

"Berdepan dengan pilihan antara membalas dendam dan mengubat luka, Mandela

menunjukkan keamanan harus bermula di rumah. Amalan ke arah keamanan bermula

dengan komitmen peribadi iaitu memaafkan dan berbelas kasihan," kata Najib.

Katanya Mandela menggerakkan seluruh negara untuk berfikir bahawa peluang

akan wujud jika mereka bersatu.

"Kata-kata dan tindakan beliau, terutama ketika ketegangan memuncak, diluah

dan dilaksana berasaskan kebijaksanaan yang lahir daripada pengalaman dan

kemurahan hati," katanya.

Menurut Najib, Mandela tidak menuruti tuntutan dendam sebaliknya menunjukkan

komitmennya kepada negara adalah lebih utama sekali gus memberi harapan kepada

dunia, bahawa perdamaian itu walaupun sukar dan mungkin tidak akan tercapai

sepenuhnya, tetap berbaloi untuk diusahakan.

MANDELA-ANUGERAH 3 (AKHIR) PUTRAJAYA

Sementara itu Dr Mahathir berkata Mandela adalah seorang yang tenang, yang

bukan sahaja membawa keamanan di Afrika Selatan tetapi juga dunia.

"Saya teringat kali pertama bertemu Mandela di Zambia, sejurus selepas

beliau dibebaskan daripada Robben Island, saya sangka akan berdepan sama ada

seorang lelaki yang patah semangat ataupun perengus selepas 27 tahun

dipenjarakan.

"Akan tetapi lelaki yang saya jumpa itu sangat rasional yang hanya

memikirkan kebajikan dan kesejahteraan rakyat Afrika Selatan," katanya.

Anugerah Mahathir untuk Keamanan Global itu merupakan anugerah antarabangsa

daripada Yayasan Keamanan Global Mahathir sebagai sumbangan ke arah usaha

keamanan sejagat.

Pelancaran anugerah itu bertujuan memberi inspirasi dan memotivasi individu

dan organisasi untuk bekerja ke arah keamanan dan membangunkan kepimpinan untuk

keamanan dalam kalangan belia generasi sekarang dan masa depan.

Anugerah Mahathir untuk Keamanan adalah idea Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing yang

pernah bekerjasama erat dengan negarawan Dr Mahathir dan Mandela.
