Netizens react to Karpal Singh's passing
It wasn't the type of news one would like to wake up to in the morning.
Opposition stalwart and Bukit Gelugor MP Karpal Singh was killed in a car accident on the North-South Expressway early Thursday (17.04.2014) morning near Gua Tempurung, Kampar in Perak.
Karpal, who would have turned 74 in June, was travelling from Kuala Lumpur with his long-time assistant Michael Cornelius Selvam Vellu, son Ramkarpal and Indonesian maid when his driver lost control of the vehicle following a collision with a lorry. Both Karpal and Michael died on the spot, while Ramkarpal and the driver suffered minor injuries. The maid is said to be in a critical condition.
The reaction to this tragic news has been swift with Malaysians as well as political leaders from both sides of the divide taking to Twitter to express their shock and sorrow:
I have just landed at Ankara when I heard the news that YB Karpal Singh died in a road accident . My condolences to the family .
