Nurul Izzah’s husband appoints relative as member of reconciliation committee

Kes cerai Nurul Izzah tangguh lagi, pasangan tidak hadir

Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar's husband, Raja Ahmad Shahrir Iskandar Raja Salim, has appointed his relative as a member of a reconciliation committee for the couple's ongoing divorce case, The Star Online reported today.

According to the report, Raja Ahmad Shahrir proposed Mohd Fauzi Mustaffa for the position today.

The report said Raja Ahmad Shahrir had earlier suggested his brother as a committee member, but the brother was unable to act on behalf of the defendant as he resides overseas.

On April 1, Nurul Izzah (pic) and Raja Ahmad Shahrir were ordered by the Lower Shariah Court to appoint members for a reconciliation committee over their divorce case.

Nurul Izzah's uncle Rosli Ibrahim was appointed as a committee member.

Howver, at that time Raja Ahmad Shahrir failed to nominate anyone to the committee.

Lower Shariah Court judge Ab Malek Awang then fixed June 12 for the presentation of a report on the reconciliation committee's decision on the outcome of discussion.

The Star Online reported that both 34-year-old Nurul Izzah and her 35-year-old husband were absent from the Jalan Duta Shariah Court, but were represented by their lawyers at the mention.

The case was mentioned for the first time before the same judge on January 21.

Counsel Normawaddah Ramli acted for Nurul Izzah and counsel Zulkifli Che Yong for Raja Ahmad Shahrir.

The report said the court had earlier ordered the formation of a reconciliation committee, chaired by a religious officer and with representatives appointed from both sides to assist the parties in coming to an amicable decision.

If the reconciliation committee fails to come to a decision, the court will appoint a Hakam or arbitrator.

The PKR vice-president filed for fasakh (annulment of marriage) against her husband, Raja Ahmad Shahrir at the Lower Shariah Court in late December last year under Section 47 of the Islamic Family Law (Federal Territories) Act 1984.

The couple, married on May 9, 2003, have two children, a seven-year-old girl and a four-year-old boy. – April 17, 2014.
