KOTA MARUDU, 26 Ogos (Bernama) -- Menteri Sains, Teknologi dan Inovasi Datuk

Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili mengunjungi SK Magandai di sini baru-baru ini untuk

memberi ceramah motivasi kepada pelajarnya sebagai persiapan menghadapi

peperiksaan Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR).

Dalam kunjungan itu, Ongkili, yang juga Anggota Parlimen Kota Marudu,

diiringi naib presiden hal-ehwal masyarakat Astro David Yap bersama pasukannya,

yang memberi bimbingan intensif kepada pelajar berkenaan.

Kumpulan pembimbing itu dibawa di bawah ''Program Menuju UPSR'' Astro.

Dalam ceramahnya, Ongkili menasihati pelajar supaya yakin dengan kemampuan

mereka untuk maju dalam pelajaran, walaupun menghadapi kekurangan berbanding

kemudahan yang dinikmati rakan mereka di bandar, asalkan mereka tekun,

mempunyai s mangat untuk berjaya, berdisiplin dan mengikuti kaedah yang diajar

kepada mereka.

Beliau juga menceritakan kepada mereka sejarah sekolah berkenaan yang serba

kekurangan ketika ditubuhkan pada 1996 oleh Persatuan Wartawan Sabah (SJA).

ONGKILI-SK MAGANDAI 2 KOTA MARUDU

Katanya melalui dana yang dikumpul, SJA membina sebuah sekolah dan membayar

gaji seorang guru sementara untuk mengajar di sekolah itu.

Beberapa tahun kemudian, sekolah berkenaan diserahkan kepada Jabatan

Pendidikan dan kini mempunyai kemudahan moden, termasuk asrama yang dilengkapi

Astro serta pasukan pengajar yang penuh dedikasi untuk membimbing pelajarnya.

“Kerajaan, syarikat korporat, NGO dan malah individu bersedia membantu kamu

untuk mempunyai keyakinan diri," kata Ongkili sambil memberi contoh tentang

kejayaan Jekus Majidin, anak muda dari Magandai, yang lulus dari Universiti

Malaysia Sabah.

“Kita mahu melihat lebih ramai Jekus daripada kalangan kamu dan sebab itulah

Astro datang ke sini untuk membantu kamu. Pelajaran adalah senjata untuk berjaya

dalam kehidupan, aset paling berharga yang mampu dimiliki seseorang dan kejayaan

kamu adalah kejayaan keluarga dan masyarakat kamu juga," katanya.

Ongkili berkata ibu bapa juga perlu menyedari perkara itu dan terus

menghantar anak mereka ke sekolah.

ONGKILI-SK MAGANDAI 3 (AKHIR) KOTA MARUDU

"Antara mesej yang kami ingin sentiasa tanam dalam kalangan ibu bapa ialah

pelajaran adalah kunci untuk kejayaan dalam kehidupan. Anak mereka boleh membuat

keputusan kemudiannya untuk terus mengusahakan ladang ibu bapa mereka dan ini

tidak menjadi masalah kerana kemajuan dalam bidang pertanian juga digalakkan,

manakala pelajaran pula penting untuk mereka," katanya.

Ongkili bekerjasama rapat dengan Astro, yang membina asrama sekolah di

kawasan pedalaman itu untuk pelajar dari keluarga miskin.

Pembinaan asrama berkenaan merupakan hadiah yang tidak ternilai harganya

bagi masyarakat setempat kerana sebelum ini, anak mereka tidak bersemangat untuk

belajar kerana terpaksa berjalan berjam-jam lamanya dan menempuh laluan berbukit

untuk ke sekolah.

Astro juga menyediakan saluran tuisyen Astro, guru terlatih dan alat bantuan

mengajar untuk meningkatkan jumlah pelajar sekolah itu yang lulus dalam UPSR.

Tahun lepas, SK Magandai mencatat sejarah apabila 87.5 peratus pelajarnya

lulus peperiksaan itu, sekali ganda daripada jumlah pada tahun sebelumnya dan

muncul sebagai sekolah terbaik di Kota Marudu daripada segi jumlah pelajar yang

lulus UPSR.
