Opposition MPs censure Karpal’s critics for insensitive remarks

Majlis Syura PAS masih boleh ubah pendirian, kata Khalid Samad

Pakatan Rakyat MPs have condemned remarks by certain critics of the late Karpal Singh, saying their insensitive remarks and stupid logic have no place in a modern educated society like Malaysia.

On former Perkasa deputy president Zulkifli Noordin's comment that Allah had killed off Karpal who had rejected the implementation of hudud laws in the country, PAS MP for Shah Alam Khalid Samad had this to say:

"Allah will kill off everybody when the time comes for people to die.

But if he is going to use his stupid logic, what has he got to say about the people in Egypt who are being killed?" he asked.

Khalid said that even if one disagreed with Karpal on his interpretation of the Federal Constitution on Islamic states for the country, the veteran politician was a committed fighter for justice and the rule of law, and his contributions should be appreciated.

"Even Prophet Muhammad Peace Be Upon Him stood up and paid his respects when there was a procession for a Jew and that is the general principle that we should follow, not their stupid logic," Khalid said, referring to Zulkifli and BN's Langkawi MP Datuk Nawawi Ahmad who had poked fun at Karpal over his stand on hudud.

Zulkifli had tweeted using his Twitter handle @zulkiflinoordin: "Dlm keadaan kemelut Krjn PAS Klntn mau mlaksanakn hudud dgn bantuan UMNO, Allah tlh mmatikn Karpal yg mnjadi pnentang utama prlaksanaannya!"

(During a time of crisis for the PAS government in Kelantan to implement hudud with the help of Umno, Allah has killed off Karpal who was greatly opposed to it.)

Nawawi, meanwhile, had insulted Karpal by posting a picture of the veteran politician's blood-smeared face as he lay in his Toyota Alphard following the tragic accident this morning.

Along with the Facebook picture was a newspaper cutting on Karpal being opposed to the implementation of hudud laws in the country.

Nawawi had also posted a comment which read: "Siapa nak sambut cabaran karpal singh? Sila bagi nama he he."

(Who wants to challenge Karpal Singh? Please submit your name.)

He wrote this in reference to the newspaper article which quoted Karpal as saying: "Mahu wujudkan negara Islam langkah mayat kami dulu – Karpal Singh."

(Those who want to create an Islamic state can only do so over my dead body – Karpal Singh.)

PKR MP for Padang Serai N. Surendran said it was sickening that the duo had chosen to rejoice over Karpal's death.

"It is unacceptable and sickening behaviour but hardly surprising coming from characters like Zul Noordin and an Umno politician," he said.

"But Karpal is a great man, he will loom large in our memories and in Malaysian history.

"The petty comments of these people only expose their own viciousness and immorality,” he added.

Surendran also called on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to take disciplinary action against Nawawi, saying failure to do so would mean that Najib condoned such behaviour.

DAP MP for Bukit Bendera Zairil Khir Johari said the insensitive remarks revealed the true nature of Zulkifli and Nawawi, against Karpal's exemplary standing in society as one who fought for human rights and was respected by all.

"He has always been a consistent fighter for human rights and freedom, including championing a Malay girl's right to wear a tudung in Singapore," Zairil said.

PKR Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin said he had lost all respect for the two individuals, adding: "It is most insensitive and provocative and even my Muslim friends are offended by their remarks.
