PAS is divided due to cooperation with Anwar, says Dr Mahathir

Dr Mahathir says PAS using Arabic words to justify alliance in Pakatan

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (pic) said the current crisis within PAS "should serve as a lesson" to the party for having cooperated with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Bernama reported today.

Referring to the rift between the ulama and the professionals in the Islamist party, the former prime minister said it is a direct result of working with the opposition leader.

"This problem is the result of their cooperation with Datuk Seri Anwar. Anyone who works with him will face problems because he likes to divide," Bernama quoted Dr Mahathir as saying after an event in Putrajaya.

"He can split his own supporters, you can see he has a history like that. When he joined Umno, he brought problems, and when he formed Pakatan, he created problems," Dr Mahathir said, adding: "it should serve as a lesson to PAS", according to Bernama.

The PAS general assembly held last week in Johor showed obvious differences between the two factions in the party, with a few key incidences.

On the first day, some pro-ulama PAS Youth members walked out of the hall when PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu was giving a speech.

Then, a call by a youth leader from the progressive side to "reject the Selangor MB post if it was offered to PAS" was met with shouts of "tak sokong" and boos from some members. – September 21, 2014.
