Pemuda MCA meminta Kementerian Pendidikan menimbang semula untuk mengurangkan masa pembelajaran Bahasa Malaysia di sekolah jenis kebangsaan Cina (SJK) (C) kepada 210 minit seminggu daripada 240 minit seminggu yang ditetapkan di bawah rangka tindakan Pelan Pembangunan Pendidikan Malaysia (PPPM) 2013-2025.

Ketuanya, Datuk Wee Ka Siong, berkata walaupun Pemuda MCA gembira dengan penambahbaikan yang dibuat dalam rangka tindakan itu berbanding laporan awalnya, namun mereka berpendapat 210 minit seminggu sudah mencukupi bagi pembelajaran bahasa itu kerana ia seimbang dengan jumlah masa bagi pembelajaran Bahasa Inggeris.

"Menggunakan masa yang lebih panjang untuk mempelajari bahasa itu bukan satu-satunya faktor yang boleh meningkatkan kecekapan. Ada perkara lain seperti kurikulum dan metodologi, yang patut juga diberi perhatian," katanya kepada pemberita selepas mempengerusikan mesyuarat jawatankuasa pusat sayap itu di Kuala Lumpur, semalam.

Selain Pemuda MCA, beberapa NGO Cina mencadangkan Bahasa Malaysia diajar selama 210 minit seminggu, sama seperti Bahasa Inggeris.

Silibus sedia ada bagi Bahasa Malaysia di Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan memerlukan 180 minit seminggu.

Wee, yang pernah menyandang jawatan timbalan menteri pendidikan, berkata Pemuda MCA akan mengemukakan satu memorandum berhubung perkara itu kepada Kementerian Pendidikan tidak lama lagi dan akan membuat resolusi mengenainya pada mesyuarat agungnya Disember ini.

Beliau juga menggesa Kementerian Pendidikan supaya segera menempatkan kembali 460 guru, yang sebelum ini mengajar di sekolah Cina sebagai guru sementara dan sudah selesai menjalani latihan perguruan Jun lalu, ke sekolah asal masing-masing bagi mengatasi masalah guru kurang berkelayakan di sekolah terbabit.

Mengenai pemilihan jawatan dalam Pemuda MCA, Wee berkata 2,363 daripada cawangan sayap itu menghantar keputusan pemilihan masing-masing dan daripada jumlah itu, keputusan 2,299 cawangan diterima jawatankuasa pusat Pemuda MCA.

Katanya, keputusan pemilihan 64 cawangan ditolak kerana terdapat kesilapan seperti pertindihan nama.

Wee berkata, untuk julung kalinya,  pada tahun ini 175 anggota wanita sayap itu dipilih sebagai ketua cawangan berikutan dasar Pemuda MCA yang membenarkan anggota wanita berusia bawah 35 tahun menyertai pergerakan itu. – Bernama, 14 September, 2013.
