(AS) Neil Armstrong, lelaki pertama menjejakkan kaki ke bulan dan angkasawan

Malaysia, Datuk Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor.

Dalam membuat gesaan itu, Duta Amerika Syarikat (AS) ke Malaysia Datuk Paul

W.Jones berkata Armstrong walaupun seorang rakyat AS, tetapi pencapaiannya dan

rakan-rakan Apollo 11 seperti Buzz Aldrin dan Michael Collins, adalah milik

dunia.

"Armstrong dan rakan angkasawannya telah mentakrifkan semula persepsi kita

terhadap masa dan ruang, jarak dan perspektif, bulan, alam semesta ini dan

tempat kita tinggal di dalamnya," katanya pada majlis pelancaran pameran foto

Armstrong di sini hari ini.

Jones berkata paling penting, program angkasa AS memberi perspektif baru dan

penghargaan yang lebih besar kepada kehidupan manusia di planet ini untuk

dikongsi bersama.

"Melalui pemahaman ini, wujud pengiktirafan untuk kita bertanggungjawab

sebagai warga dunia dalam komuniti global bagi mengukuhkan hubungan antara

negara dan bekerjasama ke arah matlamat dan impian yang sama," katanya pada

majlis yang dirasmikan Timbalan Ketua Setiausaha (Sains) Kementerian Sains,

Teknologi dan Inovasi (Mosti) Prof Datin Paduka Dr Khatijah Mohd Yusoff.

Pameran ''A Tribute To Neil Armstrong'' menceritakan perjalanan hidupnya

daripada zaman kanak-kanak hingga kisah bersejarahnya menjejakkan kaki ke bulan

melalui siri bergambar dan babak dalam kehidupannya.

Armstrong membesar di sebuah pekan kecil di AS pada 1030-an, belajar

menerbangkan kapal terbang pada usia 15 tahun dan menjadi manusia pertama

menjejakkan kaki ke bulan pada usia 38 tahun pada 1969. Beliau meninggal dunia

pada 25 Ogos tahun ini.

Jones berkata banyak teknologi yang terdapat pada hari ini direka hasil

penemuan teknologi angkasa.

Pameran yang diadakan di Planetarium Negara berlangsung sehingga 7 Jan 2013.
