In the antique market of Karaikudi

In the rich diverse, colourful and larger than life world of the Chettiar community of Tamil Nadu lies treasures that have been handed down from generation to generation. The sprawling mansions were built with materials from every part of the world – talian marbles, Japanese tiles and Belgian glass. Pillars of teak with ornate sculptures are found everywhere. The Chettiyars may have left Chettinadu, but several antiques that once filled their homes are found in a handful of shops in Karaikudi, which is the traditional antique market.
