KUALA LUMPUR, 16 Mei (Bernama) -- Kementerian Kesihatan akan memperluaskan

pelaksanaan program Saringan Pendengaran Universal Bayi Baru Lahir (UNHS) bagi

memastikan masalah pendengaran dalam kalangan bayi dapat dikesan awal.

Ketua Pengarah Kesihatan Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah berkata UNHS setakat

ini dilaksana di Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah (Kedah),

Hospital Putrajaya dan semua hospital universiti di negara ini.

"Pelaksanaan program ini diharap dapat mengenal pasti masalah pendengaran

pada bayi berusia tiga bulan dan langkah intervensi dilaksana pada usia enam

bulan," katanya dalam ucapan perasmian kongres keempat ''Asian Paediatric

Otorhinolarygology (ORL)'' dan kongres kelima ''Malaysian International ORL-Head

and Neck Surgeons (MSO-HNS)'' di sini hari ini.

Teks ucapan beliau dibacakan Timbalan Pengarah (Pembangunan Profesion

Perubatan) Dr Rohaizat Yon.

Dr Noor Hisham berkata Kementerian Kesihatan akan terus menyokong program

saringan pendengaran dan merancang untuk membekalkan peralatan saringan bernilai

RM10 juta kepada hospital yang menyediakan perkhidmatan ORL pada tahun-tahun

akan datang.

KESIHATAN-PENDENGARAN 2 (AKHIR) KUALA LUMPUR

Katanya walaupun tidak semua hospital ada program UNHS, hospital yang

menawarkan perkhidmatan ORL menyediakan saringan pendengaran neonatal bagi kes

bayi berisiko tinggi.

"Statistik daripada Kajian Pendengaran Kebangsaan pada 2005 menunjukkan 7.2

peratus kanak-kanak yang berusia kurang daripada 10 tahun menghidap masalah

pendengaran, iaitu bersamaan 285,000 kanak-kanak," katanya.

Menurut Dr Noor Hisham, program implan koklear kebangsaan yang bermula pada

2008 telah memberi manfaat kepada 724 kanak-kanak dan kementerian itu

bekerjasama rapat dengan Kementerian Pelajaran untuk memastikan kanak-kanak

terbabit berupaya mengikuti sistem pengajian arus perdana.

(MSO-HNS) bertema ''Issues and Updates: From Infancy to Adulthood'' itu dihadiri

kira-kira 500 pengamal perubatan.
