Putrajaya approves establishment of Mara Corp – Bernama
The government has approved the establishment of Majlis Amanah Rakyat Corporation (Mara Corp) to ensure Mara continues to remain relevant in elevating the status of the Bumiputera.
Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said the establishment of Mara Corp which was aimed at improving corporate governance of Mara subsidiaries would further propel business growth.
He said through Mara Corp, the investment and financial system of subsidiaries under Mara would be managed in a more systematic, efficient and professional manner.
"This is to ensure a strong and stable financial standing so as not to be too dependent on the government in protecting the welfare of the Bumiputera in future.
"With Mara Corp, the direction and focus of Mara subsidiaries will be more defined, with more revenue and dividends for the benefit of the Bumiputera," he said at the Mara 2014 Annual Dinner and Award ceremony in Kuala Lumpur last night.
The ceremony was held to celebrate a total of 307 Mara employees, including retirees, who had served the agency for 25 years.
Also present were Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi and Mara director-general Datuk Ibrahim Ahmad. – Bernama, November 8, 2014.
