Raja Bomoh spouting mumbo-jumbo again

Bomoh (shaman) Ibrahim Mat Zin (pic, third left) is in the headlines for the wrong reasons again, this time for conducting a cleansing ritual along KM306.1 of the North-South Expressway.

The area has been in the spotlight since last Thursday after Bukit Gelugor MP Karpal Singh died when his Toyota Alphard was involved in a collision with a lorry.

Selangorkini reported today that Ibrahim, known as Raja Bomoh Sedunia Nujum VIP, performed the cleansing ritual to rid the area of spirits.

Karpal, 73, and his personal assistant Michael Cornelius, 30, died in the 1.10am accident on Thursday when his Alphard was involved in a collision with a five-tonne Mitsubishi Canter.

Images of Ibrahim performing the ritual have been widely circulated on Facebook and Twitter, bringing a barrage of criticism from social media users.

Malaysians have demanded that Putrajaya take action against Ibrahim, stopping him from continuing with his activities, which have been described as illegal from a religious perspective.

A blog (aans1.blogspot.com) quoted Ibrahim as claiming that Karpal's death was due to spiritual disturbance in the Gua Tempurung.

Ibrahim had claimed that the area around the Gua Tempurung area was infamous for spiritual disturbances as many drivers had suffered similar experiences, especially at night.

Ibrahim made the headlines in the early days of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 going missing by performing a locating ritual at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

Allegations circulated that Ibrahim was being protected by certain quarters.

This is because the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) had in 2004 declared that Ibrahim's bomoh treatments was in conflict with the Islamic faith.

Jakim had ruled that Ibrahim's treatments had elements of superstition and deceit.

Ibrahim claimed that he had been invited to KLIA by one of Putrajaya's top leaders to help locate MH370 using a spiritual method and prayer.

He performed the ritual using a fish trap hook and bamboo binoculars, and was widely pilloried by Malaysians.

He then came a second time to KLIA with his assistants, brining along coconuts and a carpet. – April 20, 2014.
