KUALA LUMPUR, June 6 (Bernama) -- Paid-television service provider Astro
will revise its packages starting July 11, with subscription fees also to
be rationalised depending on packages selected by consumers.
In a statement today, Astro stated that customers may experience an increase
of between RM1 and RM15 per month or monthly savings between RM4 and RM14.95
following the move.
The Family Package gives homes access to 38 channels at the existing price
of RM37.95 per month, the statement added.
According to Astro, viewers can enjoy value for money with the introduction
of Super Packs designed to offer the best of Astro''s packages including high
definition (HD) and personal video recording (PVR).
For RM125, customers can receive HD and recording services, in addition to
any three mini packs such as sports, movies, Mustika and Astro Tayangan Hebat
with great savings of up to RM45.85.

Astro Chief Operating Officer Henry Tan, in the statement, said the price
rationalisation was necessary due to increasing costs of local and global
content, including rights to broadcast sporting events.
"We are committed towards providing our viewers with variety, but Astro can
no longer afford to absorb the rising costs of content.
"We realise its imposition on our customers, but from a business perspective
the price rationalisation is necessary following the increased cost of global
and local content," he added.
