Sabah will get its share of oil revenues, says Najib

Putrajaya has reassured Sabah that it will receive more aid derived from its oil and gas resources, the prime minister said last night.

Datuk Seri Najib Razak (pic) said the contributions would be made through “suitable methods” without affecting the oil industry in the state, reports Bernama.

As a start, Najib said, Petronas would increase its corporate social responsibility (CSR) contributions for Sabah, especially in education. It will channel funds to improve facilities in rural schools, provide training, technical expertise and scholarships for university students.

"If we want continued success, we must have the capability... In a competitive economy today, creative value will determine our continued success. We will increase the capacity of the people of Sabah," he was reported as saying.

Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman, said Najib, had always been vocal when it came to the issue of oil royalty in the state, seeking more funds from the development of its oil and gas industry.

The Petronas president is scheduled to give a special briefing to the state government and federal ministers from Sabah on the issue of oil royalty.

"Believe me, we will do the best for Sabah. This is not political rhetoric… If we add up the allocations received by Sabah through federal ministries and agencies together with development and operational expenditure, the amount is three times the 20% oil royalty sought for the state by the opposition," Najib was quoted as saying. – July 13, 2014.
