KUALA LUMPUR, 13 Mei — Umno diibaratkan seperti membunuh diri sekiranya cuba menjatuhkan preisennya, Datuk Seri Najib Razak atau menolak kesederhanaan, kata Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, ahli politik yang dilihat lebih progressif dalam parti itu.

Beliau yang lantang bersuara dan memperjuangkan politik baru itu berkata parti komponen Barisan Nasional (BN) seharusnya berhenti merungut berkenaan kegagalan parti pemerintah itu memperolehi dua pertiga majoriti Parlimen, sambil menjelaskan senario berkenaan tidak seharusnya wujud dalam negara demokrasi.

“Hanya jika kamu menuntut perdana menteri meletak jawatan, ia KPI yang salah!” kata Saifuddin (gambar), merujuk kepad Najib, yang juga merupakan perdana menteri dan juga Pengerusi BN.

“Lebih-lebih lagi, Umno menunjukkan peningkatan keputusan berbanding pilihan raya pada 8 Mac, ia sepatutnya dihargai oleh ahli Umno, prestasi Najib lebih baik berbanding bekas Perdana Menteri Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi,” kata bekas timbalan menteri pengajian tinggi itu lagi dalam akhbar berbahasa Cina, Sin Chew Daily.

Dalam Pilihan Raya 2013 lalu, Najib mengetuai Umno dan memenangi 88 kerusi Parlimen, peningkatan berbandng 79 kerusi pada Pilihan Raya 2008.

BN pula sebaliknyamemenangi 133 kerusi Parlimen, kurang tujuh berbanding 2008 apabila mereka berjaya memperolehi 140 kerusi Parlimen dan 148 kerusi diperlukan untuk membentuk dua pertiga majoriti. BN turut kehilangan undi popular, pertama kali selepas Pilihan Raya 1969 ketika parti itu dikenali sebagai Parti Perikatan.

Walaupun mengalami penurunan jumlah kerusi dan prestasi yang merosot, Saifuddin mengingatkan ahli Umno bahawa Najib adalah produk terbaik BN dan menjadi penyebab kemenangan gabungan kerajaan tersebut, dan mengingatkan cubaan menjatuhkan Najib akan menyebabkan tindakan bunh diri.

Najib dilihat pemerhati telah membawa BN dan Umno menggunakan kempen popularitinya, dan beliau kekal popular berbanding parti.

Saifuddin juga mengingatkan Umno perlu meneruskan perjalanan kesederhanaan mereka, dan cubaan meninggalkan cara berkenaan turut akan menguburkan Umno.

“Masa depan Umno ditentukan oleh ahli Majlis Tertinggi selepas pemilihan tahun ini,” katanya yang juga ahli Majlis Tertinggi Umno.

Beliau menjelaskan ahlijawatankuasa berkenaan terbahagi kepoada tiga, yang dinamakannya sebagai kumpulan “Yes, Presiden”, kumpulan kecil “ekstremis Melayu”, dan kumpulan lebih kecil yang progressif.

Dengan kehadiran kumpulan “Yes Presiden” lebih besar, Saifuddin menganggarkan polisi Najib akan diteruskan dan akan menerima sokongan yang kuat.

Walaupun Najib mengekalkan konsep 1 Malaysia, kumpulan haluan kana Umno seringkali mempunyai polisi yang bertentangan.

Semua pihak kini sedang menunggu pemilihan Umno, parti yang memenangi 240 daripada 275 kerusi DUN akan menentukan sama ada Najib akan kekal sebagai presiden atau timbalannya, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, 66 akan mencabar Najib yang berusia 59 tahun untuk jawatan itu.

Dalam temuramah bersama Sinar Harian, Saifuddin turut membangkitkan soal penyertaan terus sebagai ahli BN berbanding menyertai parti komponen.

“Sekarang kita sudah ada ‘rakan BN’ tapi saya fikir itu tidak cukup, mereka ingin jadi ahli BN, mereka membawa kad sebagai ahli BN.

Segala susunannya haruslah difikirkanlah, maknanya parti-parti komponen boleh terus beroperasi seperti biasa, tiada masalah, saya pun akan kekal dalam Umno, tak terfikir nak keluar dan sebagainya, tetapi ada orang seperti anak saya, atau orang muda yang lain, mereka tak nak jadi ahli Umno, mereka nak jadi ahli BN,” katanya dipetik Sinar Harian.

Jelas beliau, generasi muda kini melihat kebanyakan anggota komponen BN adlaah berasaskan kaum yang mrupakan model ketika zaman kemerdekaan.

Mereka, tegas Saifuddin mahukan model baru yang mana lebih menerima keahlian terus.
