Selangor allocates more than RM750,000 to repair storm damage

The Selangor state government has allocated a total of RM753,000 for repairs to the damages caused by a thunderstorm and strong winds in Pandamaran, Klang on Tuesday.

Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali said that the strong and severe winds have destroyed public property and the homes of people in Kampung Pandamaran, Flat PKNS Pandamaran Jaya, Flat Pandamaran Permai Indah dan Kampung Pandamaran Jaya.

"The state government, through the Selangor Housing and Property Board, has agreed to repair the roofs of three blocks at Pandamaran Permai Indah flats and replace the water tanks at four blocks. This will involve RM600,000 in costs," he said in a statement today.

Another RM50,000 was allocated as consolation for the repairs of more than 40 damaged houses, which will be evaluated by the Klang District and Land Office, and RM30,000 to rebuild the Sungai Aur fisherman's jetty which was also destroyed in the storm.

In addition, the Klang Municipal Council has been given RM73,000 for cleaning up work, including of the debris, rubbish and clearing of fallen trees following the freak thunderstorm.

The storm on Tuesday began at 2pm and wreaked havoc in Pandamaran in less than 30 minutes. According to reports, residents claimed that a 'tornado-like' wind had ripped the roof of several apartments, uprooted trees and damaged vehicles.

Meanwhile, Azmin also revealed that the Selangor Exco had agreed to implement a plan to keep Selangor free from dengue, called 'Terjah & Musnah Aedes Negeri Selangor 2014'.

He said the purpose of the campaign is to increase prevention and control of dengue focusing on three approaches: control and action; awareness and promotion activities; and continuous monitoring.

Selangor has recorded the highest number of dengue cases this year (40,143), with 153 deaths reported nationwide until October 11. – October 24, 2014.
