Shrinking the large tourer

Maserati plans for a smaller alternative of the GranTurismo coupè

Come on, we all love Maseratis. It is a fact that the Italian marque has been producing cars that only appeal to a handful of motoring enthusiasts around the world. Cars such as the GranTurismo and Quattroporte have seen tremendous success because of their massive fan base.

But as the competition gets stiffer, Maserati is keeping their line-up fresh to challenge rivals that come from other parts of the world. But there is one thing that we have noticed from Maserati; both the Quattroporte and GranTurismo are actually quite huge. Despite having strong performance credentials, the GranTurismo coupè is still a very large, performance tourer compared to its closest rivals.

Cars such as the Aston Martin DB9, Bentley Continental GT and the Jaguar XK are in fact, smaller in comparison. The GranTurismo's length is measured at 192 inches, which is actually bigger than its rivals.

Reviving the nameplate that once dominated the line-up back in 2007, the GranSport is expected to be comparable to a Porsche 911 in size. As there are no further details about the new model, here is a first impression of the new GranSport by Auto Express.
