Sinkhole forces closure of stretch along Jalan Cheras

A 50-metre stretch of Jalan Cheras (Kajang-bound) located near the Maluri LRT station has been closed with immediate effect, MMC Gamuda KVMRT (T) Sdn Bhd (MGKT) announced today.

The closure which affects the fast and middle lanes along the stretch was implemented to rectify a minor sinkhole that occurred in relation to the ongoing MRT project.

MGKT said in a statement that the occurrence of the sinkhole was an expected risk in karstic limestone geology, adding that all measures had been put in place to prevent such incidents from happening and to manage them when they occurred.

MGKT also apologised for the inconvenience caused, saying that traffic flow was smooth at the moment. The affected lanes are expected to be open by 5pm today.

The MRT Project emergency response team is on site to help direct traffic.
