SPAD finds 71% satisfied with public transport system in cities – Bernama
A survey carried out by the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) in 2012 and 2013 revealed that 71% were satisfied with public transport provided by public transport providers in the Klang Valley.
SPAD chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar (pic) said statistics involving all land transport systems showed that there was commitment to improve the services.
"To continue excellence in service and the satisfaction of the users, SPAD will study various measures, including using trams in cities," he said at a SPAD symposium in Kuala Lumpur today.
"There are suggestions to introduce trams but we will have to wait for the reaction and reply from the government."
Earlier, in his keynote address, Syed Hamid said the future of Asean cities will depend very much on the shape of its land public transport mobility and efficiency, as this two keys play an important role to drive economic growth.
"No country has ever climbed from low income to middle/high income status without a significant and dynamic land public transport.
"Therefore, it is important for us now to give priority to public transport investment, rather than giving priority to building roads in the name of connectivity and relieving congestion," he said. – Bernama, November 18, 2014.
