Suruhanjaya Pilihan Raya (SPR) hari ini mengumumkan Pilihan Raya Kecil (PRK) bagi kerusi Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) Kuala Besut akan diadakan pada 24 Julai dan hari penamaan calon pada 12 Julai 2013.

Ini bermakna, PRK itu akan berlangsung semasa umat Islam seluruh negara menjalani ibadah puasa.

Pengerusi SPR Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof memberitahu tarikh pengundian awal akan berlangsung pada 20 Julai. Pegawai Daerah Besut A. Rahim Jusoh dilantik sebagai pegawai pengurus pilihan raya.

"SPR bersetuju untuk menubuhkan satu Pasukan Penguat Kuasa Kempen Pilihan Raya (PP-KPR) dan pasukan berkenaan akan diketuai oleh Setiausaha Majlis Daerah Besut Saidi bin Salleh.

"Kompleks Rakan Muda Kampung Raja akan dijadikan pusat penamaan calon dan Dewan Majlis Daerah Besut sebagai pusat penjumlahan undi rasmi.

"Sembilan pusat mengundi akan dibuka untuk tujuan pengundian, iaitu satu pusat mengundi awal dan lapan pusat mengundi pada hari biasa," jelas Abdul Aziz dalam sidang media  di Ibu Pejabat SPR, Putrajaya.

Abdul Aziz memberitahu Dewan Serbaguna TUDM Gong Kedak akan dibuka sebagai pusat mengundi awal manakala lapan buah sekolah dengan 35 saluran mengundi dibuka pada hari mengundi biasa.

"305 petugas pilihan raya dilantik dan anggaran kos PRK ini bernilai RM760,000. Daftar Pemilih yang akan digunakan pada PRK kali ini ialah Daftar Pemilih Induk 2011, 2012 dan suku pertama 2013 yang telah dikemaskini sehingga 26 Jun tahun ini.

"Seramai 17,683 pemilih berdaftar yang terdiri daripada 16,534 pemilih biasa, 1,134 tentera dan pasangan, 14 orang polis dan seorang pengundi di luar negara," tambah Abdul Aziz.

PRK Kuala Besut diadakan berikutan penyandangnya Dr. A. Rahman Mokhtar kembali ke rahmatullah pada hujung bulan lalu akibat komplikasi paru-paru berair di Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah, Kuala Terengganu.

Dr. A. Rahman juga merupakan Exco Kesihatan, Wanita dan Pembangunan Masyarakat Terengganu semasa hayatnya.

Pada pilihan raya umum ke-13 (PRU13) lalu, Dr. A. Rahman yang mewakili Barisan Nasional (BN) menewaskan calon PAS Napisah Ismail dengan majoriti 2,434 undi. - 5 Julai, 2013.
