Survivor calls Genting bus “old and dilapidated” - Bernama

One of the 16 survivors of the horrible bus accident at KM3.5 Jalan Genting Highlands today, said that she had a bad feeling when boarding the bus after seeing its poor physical condition.

Nur Syamimi Ja'afar, 25, said she clearly noticed that it was an old, dilapidated bus with bald tyres.

The woman, who sustained a broken arm and minor cuts on the face and hands, conveyed this to her boyfriend, Zaid Ismail, 25, who visited her at Selayang Hospital tonight.

Speaking to Bernama, Zaid said: "After the bus plunged into the ravine, Nur Syamimi said she went to look for her sister, Nur Fathiah, 21, who was thrown a few metres away from their original seats.

"Nur Fathiah also sustained minor injuries. She said they crawled out of the bus through the broken window and tried to help other victims. She said they saw some with severe head injuries and some pinned under the bus," Zaid said.

Another victim, Saidah Misbun, 19, managed to call her mother to inform her about the accident soon after it occurred at 2.45 pm.

Her sister, Sajidah Misbun, 21, said after receiving the call, she and their mother rushed to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital to check on Saidah.

"It's hardly a year since she started working in Genting Highlands and I never thought something like this would happen. She sustained a broken rib and will probably have to undergo an operation soon," Sajidah said.

The accident, which occurred when the bus carrying 53 passengers plunged into a 60-metre ravine on its way down from Genting Highlands to the city, claimed 37 lives, including the bus driver. - Bernama, August 22, 2013.
