Sweet Serenity for seven

Edaran Tan Chong Motors, the official distributor of Nissan cars in Malaysia has launched the country's first hybrid MPV, the Serena S-Hybrid.

Thanks to the government's approach towards fuel-efficient hybrids, Malaysia is one of the fastest growing markets for hybrid vehicles lately. After Toyota and Honda brought in their range of hybrid cars over here, now its Nissan's turn to launch the all-new Nissan Serena S-Hybrid.

Dubbed as the first hybrid MPV to be put on sale in Malaysia, the Serena S-Hybrid (S for Smart) is the latest offering from the once ailing Japanese marque, which decided on many job cuts internationally. After Carlos Ghosn was named CEO the Renault & Nissan Alliance, the company focused more on technological advancements that is combined superior build quality and production volume to meet global demand.

The Serena S-Hybrid boasts a class leading fuel economy figure. At 15.2km/l, it overshadows rivals such as the Toyota Noah/Voxy and the Honda Stepwagon, which is not available here. Being a MPV, the Serena S-Hybrid comes with seven seats which is able to accommodate people of various sizes coupled with generous headroom space that eases movement in the cabin.

Powered by a 2.0-litre engine that is sandwich with a ECO Electric Motor. By enhancing fuel economy, the engine is based on Nissan's latest direct injection technology and a Xtronic CVT transmission that reduces lag. The ECO Electric Motor comes with a built-in stop start feature with regenerative braking mechanisms.

On the inside, the seating position of the Serena S-Hybrid is configurable to suit your needs. It comes with 14 different types of seating configurations, and each rows of seats at the back is accompanied by an individual air-conditioning blower. Storage areas are also available, where the Smart Multi Centre Seat is slidable along the aisle of the vehicle. Entry an exit is also made easy thanks to the powered-sliding doors that boasts plenty of practicality at tight-spot parking areas.

The first batch of Serena S-Hybrids will be getting a Multi Information Display along with Sat-Nav as standard. The fully imported Serena S-Hybrid is priced at RM149,500 on the road with insurance.
