Seorang eksekutif kanan Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (SYABAS) Rahmat Bidin mendakwa tindakan kerajaan negeri membekukan perbelanjaan modalnya (Capex) menyebabkan pemegang konsesi air menghentikan kerja pembaikan serta menaik taraf paip di negeri itu.

Katanya, menghentikan kerja pembaikan paip lama itu pada 2008 selepas menjalankan antara 10 hingga 20 peratus kerja-kerja untuk menaik taraf paip berkenaan.

"Terdapat puluh ribu batang paip di Wilayah Persekutuan, Putrajaya dan Selangor. Kita utamakan paip yang melebihi usia 45 tahun kemudian baru kita tengok paip yang berusia 35 tahun dan seterusnya.

"Kita memang ada program untuk menaik taraf batang paip tetapi sejak 2008, bajet telah dibekukan oleh kerajaan negeri. Sebelum ini memang ada program tapi dah dibekukan oleh kerajaan negeri.

"SYABAS beroperasi pada 2005, 2007 kita buat plan dan dah buat dalam 10 hingga 20 peratus pembaikan paip tetapi pada tahun 2008 terpaksa dihentikan," katanya.

Beliau menjawab soalan yang dikemukakan dalam sesi dialog warga Selayang bersama SYABAS di Dewan Selayang Utama malam tadi.

Penduduk berkenaan meminta Rahmat menjelaskan mengenai kejadian paip pecah yang sering berlaku sehingga menyebabkan penduduk tidak mendapat bekalan air.

Bagaimanapun, MP Selayang William Leong kemudiannya dalam program sama menjelaskan bahawa kerajaan negeri sengaja membekukan perbelanjaan modal itu memandangkan SYABAS gagal menurunkan kadar air tak berhasil.

"Menteri Besar sebelum ini dah jelaskan kenapa mereka tak beri Capex kepada SYABAS pada 26 November tahun lalu.

"Bukan seperti yang dikatakan oleh pihak SYABAS tadi, kerajaan negeri bukan sengaja membekukan malah mereka juga tidak menurunkan kadar air tidak berhasil (NRW)," katanya.

Beliau menjelaskan demikian selepas Rahmat - yang meluangkan masa kira-kira 40 minit dalam program tersebut - beredar meninggalkan dewan berkenaan.
