Tighter rules for pig farmers to curb spread of JE – Bernama

The Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Ministry is tightening regulations for pig farmers to prevent the spread of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) among human beings.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, said the new regulations were aimed at protecting those most at risk of being infected with the JE virus, especially if they lived near pig farms.

"We want pig farms to have a buffer zone. This can be a few kilometres between a pig farm and residents' homes," he said yesterday.

Ismail Sabri said pig farm owners would also be required to ensure their farms had access to a proper sewarage system. – Bernama, July 13, 2014.
