Tunisian diplomat missing in Libya

TRIPOLI, Libya (AP) — Officials say a Tunisian diplomat has gone missing in the Libyan capital, days after gunmen kidnapped the Jordanian ambassador.

The Tunisian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Laaroussi Kontassi, an adviser at the country's embassy in Tripoli, disappeared Thursday morning in "unclear circumstances." The ministry said it had received no claim of responsibility about a possible kidnapping.

A Libyan security official said that Kontassi was abducted but gave no further details. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to brief the media.

Libya's Foreign Ministry declined to comment.

Libya has been plagued by lawlessness, including a spate of kidnappings, since the end of the country's civil war more than two years ago.

In March, an employee with the Tunisian Embassy was kidnapped in Libya.
