Two reports on sedition during Pengkalan Kubor campaign, say cops – Bernama

The police in Kelantan have received two reports on a talk and distribution of compact discs (CD) of seditious nature during the campaign for the Pengkalan Kubor by-election which is now in its eighth day.

State police chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim said the first report was received on September 17 against a state executive council member for allegedly issuing statements of a seditious nature during a ceramah (political talk) on September 13.

He said the second report was lodged on September 18 by a man who claimed to have received a packet containing a CD on a talk by a political party.

The CD was left on the complainant's car, he told reporters in Tumpat today.

On the by-election campaign, he said, it was generally going smoothly with no report of any untoward incidents.

However, he said, additional policemen would be mobilised on polling day this Thursday.

"Security level has to be stepped up to ensure a smooth voting process," he added.

There are 24,039 voters in the Pengkalan Kubor constituency, comprising 23,929 ordinary voters, 109 advance voters and an absentee or overseas voter.

The Pengkalan Kubor by-election is called following the death of three-term assemblyman Datuk Noor Zahidi Omar from liver cancer last Aug 20 .

The by-election is a three-cornered contest among Mat Razi Mat Ail of Barisan Nasional, PAS candidate Wan Rosdi Wan Ibrahim and independent candidate Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary.

Noor Zahidi had retained the seat in the general election held last year with a majority of 1,736 votes, beating Saharun Ibrahim of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and Izat Bukhary. – Bernama, September 21, 2014.
