BUKIT KAYU HITAM, 29 Nov (Bernama) -- Unit Pencegah Penyeludupan (UPP)

Bukit Kayu Hitam merampas 8,000 liter petrol bernilai RM15,200 daripada dua buah

lori di Jalan Changlun-Bukit Kayu Hitam hadapan balai Jabatan Bomba

dan Penyelamat Bukit Kayu Hitam pagi tadi.

Empat anggota UPP yang melakukan rondaan ketika itu menahan kedua-dua lori

dalam keadaan mencurigakan pada pukul 7.40 pagi, dipercayai dalam perjalanan ke

tempat simpanan minyak haram sebelum diseludup ke negara jiran.

Komander UPP Kedah Abdul Latif Abdul Rahman berkata hasil pemeriksaan lanjut

mendapati terdapat sebuah tangki besi yang boleh memuatkan hingga 4,000 liter

petrol bagi setiap lori.

Katanya dua lelaki tempatan berusia 34 dan 42 tahun yang memandu lori itu

ditahan bagi membantu siasatan dan kes dirujuk kepada Pejabat Perdagangan Dalam

Negeri, Koperasi dan Kepenggunaan Kubang Pasu.

Beliau berkata suspek dipercayai mendapat bekalan petrol daripada stesen

minyak sekitar Alor Setar dan Sungai Petani berdasarkan alamat tempat tinggal

kedua-dua suspek di Bedong.

"Ini modus operandi terbaru sindiket penyeludupan minyak. Mereka guna lori

bunded seperti lori ais atau lori barangan bagi mengaburi pihak berkuasa agar

tidak melakukan pemeriksaan terhadap lori terbabit," kata Abdul Latif pada

sidang media di Pejabat UPP Bukit Kayu Hitam di sini hari ini.

Beliau berkata kes disiasat di bawah Seksyen 21 Akta Kawalan Bekalan 1961

dan jika sabit kesalahan boleh didenda tidak lebih RM250,000 atau penjara tiga

tahun atau kedua-duanya sekali bagi syarikat yang terbabit.

Bagi kesalahan individu, dendanya tidak kurang RM100,000 atau penjara tidak

lebih tiga tahun atau kedua-duanya sekali.
